In October, we will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mary Ann Shadd Cary.

Mary Ann was both an Abolitionist and Suffragist.  Born into a free black family in Delaware, she came to Ontario to be part of the underground railway for freedom seekers who wished to escape the perils of the Fugitive Slave Act in the United States.  Among her many accomplishments, Mary Ann was the first woman in Canada to publish a newspaper.  She is one of the women in our acting repertoire.

Stay tuned for a Person’s Day Event that will also pay tribute to this remarkable woman.
